LouisianaConnect.org launches new feature to increase high school student participation in credit-bearing college courses.
Last summer, ConnectEDU and Louisiana announced their partnership to deploy a statewide college and career access web portal called LouisianaConnect. The site enables Louisiana students to:
-
Build a network of colleges and employers
-
Receive personal alerts about scholarships, grant opportunities, and other resources students may be eligible to receive
-
Search and compare schools by majors, programs of study, cost of attendance and admissions requirements
-
Learn how to pay for college

Today, a new feature of LouisianaConnect was launched. Designed to increase student awareness and access to higher education opportunities, the new feature notifies 11th and 12th graders across the state of their eligibility to participate in the Expanding High School Choice program. Through the program high school students can take credit-bearing, college coursework at more than 40 Louisiana colleges and universities.
Expanding High School Choice is a critical component of the state’s broader Course Choice initiative which:
-
Gives students and their parents/caregivers unprecedented choice in developing personal educational pathways
-
Provides innovative career and technical education courses, internships and apprenticeships that will prepare students for the types of jobs Louisiana needs filled by Louisiana graduates in order for the state to prosper
-
Motivates students to graduate high school on time or early, many with college credits to prepare them for post-secondary academic and career success
-
Helps students who are behind their class level catch up and graduate on time.
How the new feature for Expanding High School Choice works:
STUDENTS ARE INFORMED:
Eligible students receive notification via the LouisianaConnect newsfeed, SMS and email alerts. Parents are also alerted!
EASIER TO APPLY:
When the student is ready to apply, the application is already pre-filled with their demographic and academic data stored on their LouisianaConnect profile.
STRESS-FREE TRACKING:
Louisiana colleges receive student applications electronically and the application is tracked every step of the way. Students are updated as the application status changes from “Submitted” to “Reviewed” and “Approved”.
STREAMLINES COUNSELOR PROCESSES:
Counselors can review applications, complete course and college indicators and approve documents all online.
